There was absolutely no time for the crew to ask questions. To ask how this creature had surfaced on a non-threat sector of Alura. A threat that only harbored in far out Sectors for only ESSENTIAL COMBATANTS to have the trouble of dealing with. It was impossible but Ramsey had waited for this day. The day where his constant paranoia would be brought to light and vindicate his urges to fight. The fear rushed through him but it was also his instinct for survival.
Ramsey stepped in front of his friends, “Get back to the shuttle! I’ll handle this!” Jason, Hanson, and Vince didn’t need to be told twice.
While the rest ran for their lives. Ramsey kept staring at the creature with indignant hatred and he stood there waiting. The creature crept slowly at him with its two hind and clawed feet. It seemed to acknowledge his presence even with its blind eyes. It could only feel him.
The Kyra launched at him with with blistering pace. Its tentacles were ready to dismember him. One glided from the left and reached for his neck but Ramsey’s ViroSuit heightened the adrenaline pumping in him to ENGAGED. At that point and time, he became omniscient and unbelievably aware. He saw the tentacle slowly coming for him. Too slow in fact. It was floating and suspended in time. His CONTECH-link gave him precious seconds and made the world revolve around him. He reached the back of his right shoulder for his GS-5 rifle. He heard his breath escaping him in one focused long draw. He felt his heart beating calmly in the midst of death. His aim completely unwavering as he looked through the sight of his weapon- waiting to strike down the enemy.
For Croc you son of a bitch!
His finger pressed upon the trigger with determination, unleashing a two-round burst of ammunition burning at 500-degrees. Just seconds before the Kyra had him in its grasp, A double squirt of yellowish blood splashed in the air. The Kyra shook in a gut-bellowing howl that echoed through the storm. Ramsey felt a twisted sense of pleasure and triumph as he watched the monster twist and squirm in torment. The bullets had cut through one of its tentacles to a considerable and shortened length. It was spewing its blood uncontrollably like a fire-hose with too much pressure.
“Eat it! ya’ freak!” Ramsey taunted in a heavy grunt. He squeezed the trigger again. This time without thought, without conservation. It was as if his first and carefully placed shot was the final crack in the dam that let all the firepower burst through with rage and destruction. He sprayed in every possible direction of the monster. There was nothing but the mechanic whirring and rapid clinking of the barrel guiding him toward his enemy. Each shot brought him a step closer as the raging alien staggered helplessly in retreat. Its scaly skin melting and charred from the deposits of incendiary rounds.
Ramsey kept firing until the weapon overheated, clicked and then clicked some more. His rifle recommended that he reload.
He frantically reached for the right side of his chest. Trying to pull out a Pyro-fused clip to insert to the bottom handle of his weapon. He looked and saw the Kyra charging at him. Though it was weakened and desecrated with bleeding holes and molten lead, it persevered with its blind rage. Before Ramsey could equip another clip, it swatted him in uppercut fashion with one of its tentacles. He flew about seven feet in the air and crashed into the dirt with exerted force.
He landed on his back so hard, he could taste the iron in the blood that rose to the back of his mouth. A bludgeoning pain shot to his neck and his cranium. His helmet lost visual feed through static then brought into focus the tall monster ready to descend upon him and finish him off. Just as it was coming down. Ramsey awaited a horrible fate.
“PER-SONNEL in DAN-GER!” PYRATE’s towering shadow cast over Ramsey like shade protecting him. Before the Kyra could pounce on him, the robot caught it and raised the creature to its camera eyes and ripped into it with its pronged fingers. The monster tried to escape with its tentacles but PYRATE stuck its drill into its face. Pumping more of the yellow and thick fluids from the monster. Ramsey watched his mech companion finally hurl the lifeless monster to the ground.
“THREAT NEU-TRA-LIZED!” PYRATE confirmed. Ramsey lay still. Still breathing.
